Quick Verdict
The iPhone 17 Pro Max is Apple’s most complete phone: the largest display, the longest battery life, the strongest camera system and the fastest chip the company has ever shipped, all in one device. It is also the least subtle iPhone in years — big, heavy and expensive — so it suits buyers who genuinely want the maximum of everything rather than the easiest phone to live with. If you want the best iPhone money can buy and you are comfortable with the size and the price, this is it. Everyone else should first read our iPhone 17 review and see how much of this experience the standard model already delivers.

Design & Build
Apple has changed the Pro formula more visibly than usual. The titanium frame of the last two generations is gone, replaced by a single-piece aerospace-grade aluminium unibody, and the camera area now stretches across the top of the back as a raised plateau. It is a bold look — the bright Cosmic Orange finish in particular makes the phone instantly recognisable — and it also has a practical purpose, making room for a larger battery and the new cooling system.
In the hand, this is unapologetically a big phone. At 231 grams and nearly 164 mm tall, it fills a pocket and demands two hands for most tasks, though the contoured edges and balanced weight distribution keep it from feeling awkward. Ceramic Shield 2 on the front is rated by Apple as far more scratch-resistant than before, and the IP68 rating covers rain, splashes and short accidental dips. Buyers coming from a smaller phone should handle one in a shop first. For the compact alternative, compare with our Samsung Galaxy S25 review.
Display / Screen
The 6.9-inch OLED panel is the largest screen Apple has ever fitted to a phone, and it is also one of the best. ProMotion adapts the refresh rate between 1Hz and 120Hz, so scrolling and gaming feel liquid-smooth while static screens sip power, and the always-on display shows the time and notifications at a glance. Resolution is sharp enough that text and fine photo detail stay crisp at any viewing distance.
Outdoor brightness is the headline figure: up to 3,000 nits claimed, which keeps maps, messages and the camera viewfinder legible under the fierce midday sun common in Pakistan, India and the Gulf. HDR video looks superb, colours are accurate rather than overcooked, and the thinner borders make the huge panel feel slightly less huge than its dimensions suggest.
Performance
The A19 Pro chip is the fastest silicon in any iPhone to date, and the new vapour-chamber cooling system is the quieter revolution. Previous Pro models could throttle under sustained load; this one is built to hold peak performance through long gaming sessions, 4K video exports and heavy multitasking without the same heat build-up.
That headroom matters most for creators: 8K video capture, ProRes recording and on-device AI features all lean on this chip, and Apple’s long software support history means the phone should stay fast through five or six years of iOS updates. iOS 26 adds the refreshed “Liquid Glass” look and Apple Intelligence features such as smarter call screening and live translation, though some continue to roll out gradually by region and language. Camera
For the first time, all three rear cameras are 48MP. The Fusion main camera delivers Apple’s most reliable results yet — fast focus, natural colours, excellent skin tones and strong detail in both daylight and low light, where it preserves the mood of a scene instead of turning night into fake daylight. The ultra-wide, also 48MP, is a genuine step up for landscapes and architecture, and macro mode turns flowers, food and small products into striking close-ups.
The star is the telephoto. With a 48MP sensor and 4x optical zoom (extending to 8x optical-quality zoom), it finally gives iPhone photographers a long lens that holds up at distance — portraits gain beautiful separation, and distant subjects stay detailed instead of dissolving into digital mush. Video is where the Pro Max pulls furthest ahead of rivals: up to 8K capture, ProRes and Log recording for professional colour grading, and Dual Capture, which records front and rear cameras at once for creators. The 18MP Center Stage front camera, shared with the standard iPhone 17, uses a square sensor for wider group selfies and keeps you framed during video calls.
Battery / Power
Battery life is the Pro Max’s most persuasive argument. Apple rates it for up to 33 hours of video playback — the longest of any iPhone ever — and in mixed real-world use most owners will comfortably reach the end of a second day before hunting for a charger. Heavy camera days, long gaming sessions and constant 5G use will still drain it faster, but the margin over smaller phones is large and obvious.
Charging is fast over USB-C, and MagSafe remains one of the most convenient wireless systems available, snapping chargers and accessories into place. As usual, no charger is included in the box, so budget for a USB-C adapter if you do not already own one.

Who Should Buy / Who Should Skip
Buy the iPhone 17 Pro Max if: you shoot a lot of photos and video and want the best camera Apple makes, you travel or work long days away from a charger, you play demanding games or edit video on your phone, and you plan to keep the device for four years or more. It is also the natural upgrade for iPhone 13 Pro Max and 14 Pro Max owners. To see where it fits in the wider family, browse our Apple iPhone all models list.
Skip the iPhone 17 Pro Max if: you prefer a phone you can use comfortably with one hand, your budget is tight, or you mostly message, browse and take casual photos — in which case the standard iPhone 17, or the value picks in our guide to the best mobiles under Rs. 50,000 in Pakistan, will serve you just as well. iPhone 16 Pro Max owners can also reasonably wait unless the battery and camera upgrades tempt them strongly.
Final Verdict
The iPhone 17 Pro Max does not try to be subtle. It is the biggest, longest-lasting, most capable iPhone Apple has ever made, and its camera and battery alone justify the Pro Max badge for the people who will actually use them. The size, weight and price are real barriers — this phone asks you to commit to it — but for buyers who want the maximum iPhone and are willing to carry it, nothing else in Apple’s range comes close.

FAQs
Is the iPhone 17 Pro Max too big for one-handed use?
For most people, yes — at 163.4 mm tall and 231 g, it is a two-handed phone for most tasks. If comfortable one-handed use matters to you, try it in a shop first or consider the standard iPhone 17, which is far easier to handle.
How good is the battery life really?
Apple rates it at up to 33 hours of video playback, the best of any iPhone. In practice, most users will get through a full day easily and often into a second day, though heavy gaming and 5G use will shorten that.
What is new about the cameras?
All three rear cameras are now 48MP, including a telephoto with 4x optical zoom and 8x optical-quality zoom. Video goes up to 8K with ProRes and Log support, making this Apple’s most capable camera phone.
Does it come with a charger in the box?
No. Like recent iPhones, the box contains the phone and a USB-C cable only, so you will need your own USB-C charger or a MagSafe charger.
iPhone 17 Pro Max or iPhone 17 Pro — which should I buy?
Buy the Pro Max for the biggest screen, the longest battery life and the full camera system. Buy the smaller Pro if you want the same chip and cameras in a more manageable size and are willing to accept shorter battery life.
